Project Details
The client required a power system for a CCTV surveillance van that could operate equipment while stationary—initially requesting 8 hours of continuous power. However, during design discussions, Merlin identified an opportunity to extend system runtime to 24 hours with minimal additional costs, maximising value for the client.
The Challenge
The client required a reliable power solution to sustain the CCTV van's surveillance equipment while stationary. This was an issue as split charging, which typically relies on the vehicle's engine to run and charge auxiliary batteries, was not a viable option due to the long periods of inactivity expected.
The Solution
During the design review, Merlin Power not only discovered a solution, but also identified the potential to enhance the system’s performance, proposing an upgrade with minimal movement on their budget. This improved solution was quickly approved by the client, and design work commenced immediately.
Key components of the system were developed from scratch using 3D visualisation software, allowing for sign-off at every stage and enabling the swift procurement of parts. From the van’s arrival at Merlin's workshop to final delivery, the reliable, fully independent 24-hour power system designed, developed, and installed in just four weeks —delivering on the tight schedule agreed upon in the project brief.
