If a battery is fully charged and then left unused (for example, in a boat or campervan), it will naturally lose charge over time through self-discharge. The rate of this discharge depends on factors such as temperature, battery type, brand, chemistry, and overall battery condition.
Our range of Fullriver AGM batteries are designed to have a very low self-discharge rate. At 25°C, they typically take 24 months to reach 50% depth of discharge when not in use, far exceeding many alternatives on the market.

This allows power sources like solar and wind energy to power systems even when the wind isn’t blowing or sun isn’t shining. Additionally, if you rely on your vehicle engine running to power onboard electrics, having onboard battery power storage means your batteries receive charge when your engine is running, store this power and then make it available for you to use even when your vehicle engine isn’t running.

Proper terminal selection depends on cable gauge, maximum current, environment, and vibration exposure. Oversized terminals reduce connection integrity; undersized terminals increase fire risk. The cable lug must be the correct size for the cable it’s being used with and the diameter of the terminal it’s connecting to.

If it's a vehicle starting battery, you will typically want an automotive terminal post. These are industry standard, meaning they will most likely match the battery terminal posts supplied with the battery you are replacing.

The industry standard for deep-cycle batteries is to have a single point of contact, using the threaded terminal on the battery (M6, M8 battery terminals). This minimises points of failure. For multiple connections in your installation, we recommend the use of busbars rather than installing terminal posts. This is the preferred option as it eliminates potential points of failure.

Most batteries do not come supplied with terminal posts (only FT-825, FT-930, FT-1100, predominantly used as vehicle starting batteries). If you require these, they can be purchased separately.
